 Dominica's
"Nature Island" is the Diving and Hiking Capitol of the Caribbean
Alps, at 5,000 feet. Many parts of the island run up and down, rather
left and right! Habitat of the indigenous and endangered Sisserou and
Jaco parrots, plants and flowers rule in the rainforest where there
are few insects and no poisonous snakes.
This
unspoiled paradise of mountains, lakes, waterfalls, and breathtaking
scenery is as spectacular under water as above. Healthy marine life,
dramatic drop-offs, coral reefs, wrecks and 100 foot windowpane
visibility, for both the novice and experienced diver, are equal to
any diving in the Caribbean.
Tourism
is in its infancy, so you will get a chance to discover an island rich
in natural and cultural resources, yet basically untouched by
traditional leisure travel.
-
Our
5-15 mile day hikes wind us up old plantation roads and rain forests
trails to impressive waterfalls and hotsprings. Some of the falls
have hot volcanic mineral water that blends with cool springs,
creating a massaging Jacuzzi in carved-out rock basins - nature’s
own beauty treatment.
-
Challenge
yourself on a three-hour uphill trek tot he rim of a 4,700 foot
volcano, through the Valley of Desolation, ending at the world’s
second largest boiling lake.
- Swim in a
subterranean river that runs through a cathedral-sized cave into the
throat of a mountain!
- Dive in the shallow
"Hot Springs" where you can see and feel "champagne" hot
water
bubbling from the sand and under sea ledges.
- Experience early
morning yoga and magnificent sunsets cooled by the soft Caribbean
tradewinds.
- Afternoons, choose
from snorkeling, scuba-diving, sailing, tennis, a rowboat ride
through winding mangrove-fringed river and shopping for artifacts in
the Carib Indian village.
Our
accommodations include: A Beach Hotel, Tennis and Dive Center
surrounded by lush gardens and pathways, fragrant with tropical
flowers. Each bedroom has a Private balcony overlooking the glittering
sea.
During
the course of the trip (or after), explore the beauty of underwater
treasures offered in this luscious tropical paradise. PADI diving
courses are offered daily for the beginner to advanced: A four/five
hour Resort Course, a four-day Certification Course and scheduled
daily dives.
